I've said it before...Aaron McGruder is a genius...

...however, he's now a censored genius. Yesterday and today, the Chicago Tribune has offered 'substitute' strips in place of those meant to be published. Why? According to them yesterday [and I've included for you a link to the real, censored strip] "Today's original Boondocks strip presents inaccurate information as fact. Please enjoy this substitute." We're not sure if it was the weed or the coke they objected to...

Today's strip that was censored is along the same lines, but in essence is a play on a guy's name. Thin ice, Trib, thin ice!

Dan Gillmor's comment? "Maybe someone should tell the Trib about those horoscopes it runs, not to mention at least some of the advertising..."

UPDATE: This follow up from Chris over at Censoround: "Incidentally, Editor & Publisher is reporting that the Detroit News and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune also pulled yesterday's strip." Very sad. And more than a little curious--who, exactly, told them to pull the strips? This was not in response to protest--they hadn't been published yet! This was either editorial pique...or a clear 'message' from somewhere not to run these strips.
