Ralph's Done It Again

Can anyone really be this politically un-savvy?! Seems that Ralph Nader has now pissed off the Congressional Black Caucus:

Tensions between Ralph Nader and the Congressional Black Caucus flared again yesterday, after a letter from the independent presidential candidate to the caucus chairman, Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), demanded an apology for an â€œobscene racial epitaphâ€? at a tense meeting last month.

Black lawmakers reacted to Naderâ€™s letter with a combination of anger and disdain, questioning his mental health and accusing him of acute and advanced egomania.

â€œHe ainâ€™t playing with a full deck,â€? said Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), a member of the caucus and vice chairman of the Democratic caucus.

...â€œWe were particularly offended by Naderâ€™s exhibitionism, his selfishness and egotism,â€? Wynn added.

Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) said, â€œIf he didnâ€™t understand what the meeting was about, not only is he an egotistical maniac, heâ€™s dumber than I thought he was.â€?

Way to go, Ralph. Oh, yeah, and now you're getting help from Dick Armey (see rest of article). Nice bedfellows you've got there.

I'll grant that Nader's not displaying much political common sense. But both the article you linked to and the earlier article describing the June 22 meeting seem to indicate that the insults and racial epithets, etc., originated from the members of the Black Caucus, not from Nader.

I have actually had some respect for Dick Armey from time to time. He's one of the few Republicans who criticized the misnamed "PATRIOT" act and related legislation, along with fellow Texas Republican (or crypto-Libertarian) Ron Paul. I'm not sure why he'd be supporting Nader, though, unless it's in order to siphon votes away from Kerry/Edwards. I wouldn't have though he was that fond of the Bush ticket.

If you look at the article, you'll see that yes, the CBC insulted him, but they don't deny that. My point was that he walked in full of arrogance, expecting them to pony up for him.

Also, the reason Armey and other groups in the right-wing are supporting Nader is exactly to pull from Kerry/Edwards, but Nader (despite saying quite the opposite) is perfectly willing to take their blood money so he can keep in the news. In fact, the group they discuss in this article admit they are supporting him solely to split tickets in battleground states. And Nader claimed when he started running that he didn't have any intention of harming the Dem run. Arrogance on a massive scale. If he were this well-funded based solely on his message, i.e. getting money from his traditional, message-oriented followers, I'd take more notice of his success. But they've abandoned him, largely due to his arrogant posturing and political destructiveness.
